A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LOYD STAR HORNETS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS EXCELLENT 1998-99 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE DISTRICT 6AA TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Loyd Star Hornets Boys Basketball Team has completed a very impressive 1998-99 season posting a 28-5 record; and

WHEREAS, the Hornets won the District 6AA Tournament, and earlier in the season won the Lincoln County Tournament and placed second in the Northwest Rankin Christmas Tournament; and

WHEREAS, the team was very ably coached by Gene Britt, who fine tuned the players athletic skills and instilled a team attitude; and

WHEREAS, outstanding player honors are to be recognized for Marcus Shannon, Cedric Hamilton and Justin Ratcliff, who received All-District Team awards; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this fine group of Mississippi student athletes, who have brought great pride and honor to their school, community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Loyd Star Hornets Boys Basketball Team for its excellent 1998-99 season and for winning the District 6AA Tournament Championship, and wish them continued success in their future athletic, academic and career endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Coach Gene Britt on behalf of the team, and that copies be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
